MOMENTS SPENT
The Wind In The Willows
produced and directed by: Gerald McDermott
"The music video for 'Moments Spent' is a little primitive. The pink and blue animated images - astrological signs and the five elements - water, air, earth and fire, mark it unequivocally as a product of the 60s. Then there's the telltale music, a sing-song psychedelic folk ditty with lyrics so sincere, evoking 'magic keyes', 'music of the wind' and 'my friend' - that it could be a parody of its time insteadof its product. But 'Moments Spent', a song written by Paul Klein and Steve De Phillips and a three minute live action, animation and music project produced and directed by Gerald McDermott, is remarkable for two reasons. First, it was made in November 1967 - a full year before the Beatles' classic 'Yellow Submarine.' In fact, its creators claim it may well be the first ever music video (that matter is currently being investigated in the Library of Congress). But whether that stake is proven or not, 'Moments Spent' has one major thing going for it - it features a beautiful brunette 22-year-old hippy chick singer named Deborah Harry."
